Warehouse Rodent Management Checklist
Building perimeter: Maintain a 3-meter clear zone around the warehouse â no weeds, no debris, no standing water â eliminate rodent cover and drinking sources
Exterior wall sealing: Inspect all exterior wall cracks and utility penetrations â stuff with steel wool then seal with caulk; rodents cannot chew through steel wool but can chew through expanding foam alone
Loading docks: Ensure dock leveler seals and strip curtains are intact with no gaps when trucks are docked â the loading area is the number one rodent entry route into the warehouse
Goods storage: Store all goods at least 30cm off the floor (use pallets or racking) and at least 50cm from walls â leave inspection and cleaning access aisles
Inventory management: Prioritize cardboard-boxed goods for use or transfer to plastic pallets â cardboard equals rodent nesting material plus cockroach food
Bait stations: Place tamper-resistant rodent bait stations every 15-20 meters along exterior walls; number each station and log bait consumption at every inspection â maintain a site plan map
Interior monitoring: Place glue boards or snap traps every 10-15 meters along interior wall edges; inspect monthly and log results â adjust layout based on capture trends
Sanitation: Sweep warehouse floors daily; clean up any spilled goods immediately â especially grain, feed, and food-grade products; spills attract rodents within hours
Documentation: Maintain a rodent monitoring log â record bait consumption, capture count, dropping locations, gnaw mark findings, and follow-up actions for every inspection
Quarterly assessment: Generate a rodent activity heat map each quarter based on monitoring data; identify high-risk zones; adjust bait station layout and inspection frequency accordingly
