Pre & Post Pest Control Service Prep Checklist
Confirm with the pest control company: the name of the product being used, whether people and pets need to vacate, the required vacate duration (typically 2-4 hours; some treatments require 24 hours), and how long after treatment before mopping or wet-cleaning is allowed
Kitchen: place all food, dishes, and utensils into sealed cabinets or the refrigerator â any exposed food and tableware must be fully covered or removed from the treatment area
Bathroom: place toothbrushes, towels, and toiletries inside cabinets â all personal care items must be sealed or removed from the treatment zone
Move large furniture (sofas, beds, cabinets) at least 50cm away from walls â this gives the technician access to baseboards and wall-floor junctions where pests primarily hide
Thoroughly vacuum the entire house â especially carpets, sofas, baseboards, and under beds; dispose of the vacuum bag immediately after (reduces egg and larvae numbers, improving treatment effectiveness)
All pet supplies (food bowls, water bowls, bedding, toys, litter boxes, bird cages) â seal and remove from the treatment area or cover completely; wash and sanitize them before reuse after treatment
Baby items (bottles, pacifiers, toys, crib bedding) â remove all items from the treatment area or double-bag and seal them
After treatment, wait the specified time (typically 2-4 hours, or as instructed by the technician) before re-entering â upon entering, open windows and ventilate for at least 30 minutes
For at least 3 days after treatment, do NOT wet-mop treated floors and baseboards â the product needs time to form a lasting protective film on surfaces; dry sweeping and vacuuming are fine
Continue monitoring for 2-4 weeks after treatment â this is the window when pest activity patterns change; record the location and number of any live insects that appear and promptly report to the pest control company so they can adjust their treatment plan
