Flea bites and mosquito bites have several distinguishing characteristics.

Distribution location: Flea bites are mainly concentrated on the lower parts of the body, such as the ankles, lower legs, and waist — because fleas typically jump from the ground.

Mosquito bites can occur on any exposed part of the body.

Appearance: Flea bites are typically smaller (1–3 mm), have a distinct dark red central punctum (bite point), surrounded by a halo of redness, and often occur in clusters of 2–3.

Mosquito bites are usually single, larger red welts.

Timing: The itching from flea bites is usually immediate.

Mosquito bite itching may not become noticeable until hours later.

Duration: Flea bites may persist for several days to a week.

Mosquito bites usually resolve within 1–3 days.

If you have pets at home and are experiencing clusters of itchy red spots on your ankles and lower legs — the likelihood of flea bites is very high.

Conduct a white sock test at home — wear white knee-high socks and walk around on the carpet for a few laps, then check the socks for any adult fleas that may have latched on.
