China Four Pests Prevention Checklist
Mosquito: Tip over and drain all standing water containers â plant pot saucers, buckets, old tires, discarded bottles â inspect weekly
Mosquito: Install window screens and screen doors, check for holes; use bed nets at night â physical protection before chemical control
Mosquito: For unavoidable standing water (rain wells, water features), add Bti granules â safe for people and pets, kills only mosquito larvae
Cockroach: Wipe kitchen counters daily, remove all food residue and grease; take out trash every night; store all food in sealed containers â denying food is step one of cockroach control
Cockroach: Seal plumbing penetrations, baseboard gaps, and cabinet bottom cracks with caulk or steel wool â block cockroach entry and travel routes
Cockroach: Apply cockroach gel bait in pea-sized dots under cabinets, behind appliances, along baseboards â 3-4 dots per meter, use continuously for 2-3 weeks
Rodent: Inspect exterior walls for all gaps larger than 6mm (pencil thickness admits mice) â stuff with steel wool first then seal with caulk â the single most critical rodent prevention step
Rodent: Install door sweeps keeping gaps under 6mm; store all food including pet food in sealed hard plastic or metal containers
Rodent: Place glue boards or snap traps along wall edges, under cabinets, and in garage corners â rodent runways follow walls; peanut butter is the best bait
Fly: Take out kitchen waste daily with tightly sealed bins and wash bin interiors regularly â flies lay eggs on garbage, hatching within 24 hours
Fly: Install window screens and screen doors; commercial kitchens can add air curtains or UV fly traps â physical barriers are ten times more effective than spraying
Fly: Clean up outdoor pet waste and fallen rotting fruit promptly; keep drainage ditches and septic tanks sealed â these are the primary fly breeding sites
